How to Apply

Graduation Day – Lakeland College, Alberta Canada

The simple answer to the question, ‘What does it take to be Pro Board accredited?’ is:

Ensure that the agency meets all of the Pro Board criteria for accreditation.

The process should begin with a self-assessment of your current policies and processes against the criteria and sub-text listed in the Development Self-Assessment Document.  In addition, Development Matrices are available to help you assess if you have complete coverage of the standard and document the testing methodology used for each JPR in a given certification level of an NFPA Professional Qualification standard.

If you decide to move forward with an application for accreditation or simply need some clarification or assistance with the initial self-assessment process, you should contact the Accreditation Manager.

The Accreditation Manager will assist you with setting up an account and getting you started with an application using the Pro Board on-line application system.

The process from here is as follows:

  • The agency completes the application.
  • The application is reviewed by the Pro Board document review specialist (DRS) for completeness and not necessarily compliance.
  • The DRS works with the agency, if needed, to get the application ready for submission to the Committee on Accreditation (COA).
  • The application is submitted to the COA for review, comment, and assignment of a site-team.
  • The site-team leader forwards the COA comments and questions to the agency and sets a date for an on-site review and assessment of the agency’s application and facilities for compliance with all Pro Board criteria for accreditation.
  • The site visit is done by at least a two-member team of COA members.
  • The site-team files a post visit report to the COA.

The COA votes, based on the work of the site-team, on the Agency’s accreditation.
